Teaching Matters: A Framework for Alignment and Steplab
At Foxfield Primary School, teaching and learning is driven by a commitment to excellence, innovation and child centered growth. We offer a broad, research led global curriculum designed to engage pupils in active problem solving, meaningful connections and critical thinking.
Years of research show that four main factors shape a child’s future: family, local community, background, and schooling. Among these, the quality of schooling has the single greatest impact and when done right, it can be up to twenty times more powerful in driving success than the other factors combined.
At Foxfield, our mission is to transform children's lives through strong partnerships and collaboration, keeping exceptional learning at the heart of everything we do. By collaborating effectively with our partner schools in Greenwich, we are able to share the very best ideas so every child benefits from outstanding teaching.
To guide our classrooms and further support our teachers, we use our Teaching Matters Framework. Built on proven educational research, this framework sets a shared standard for high-quality teaching, a rich curriculum, and positive classroom environments. It breaks expert teaching down into clear, practical steps and provides ongoing coaching for our staff, ensuring our teachers have the tools, support, and confidence to help your child thrive every single day.
Within The Inspire Partnership, the five strands of Teaching Matters are:

At Foxfield Primary School, we believe that great teaching leads to great learning. To support our teachers in constantly growing, we use Steplab as our core instructional coaching platform. Steplab helps us break down professional development into clear, bite-sized action steps tailored to each teacher's individual goals. Through regular coaching, actionable feedback, and step-by-step guidance, every member of our teaching team gets the continuous support they need to flourish.
A huge part of this coaching culture is our open-door policy. We encourage all staff to drop into other classrooms regularly to observe best practice and see strong teaching in action. Whether it is picking up a new technique for classroom management or watching how a colleague delivers a complex lesson, this open culture keeps our team connected. It removes classroom isolation and makes learning from one another a natural part of our everyday routine.
The impact of instructional coaching at Foxfield is visible in every classroom. Teachers feel confident, valued, and empowered to keep improving, which directly benefits our children. By embedding coaching and shared observation into our culture, we maintain high teaching standards across the school and ensure our pupils receive the rich, engaging education they deserve every single day.
