Rail Safe Friendly – how to stay safe on Railways

We are so proud to share that Foxfield Primary School has officially achieved the Rail Safe Friendly Bronze Award.

We are actively taking steps to protect our children and raise awareness about the dangers of the railway network.

As part of this initiative, classes across all year groups from Reception to Year 6 engaged with age-appropriate safety videos delivered through the Learn Live platform. The sessions sparked important conversations about platform safety, the speed of modern trains, and hidden hazards such as overhead electric lines.

What we learned

Our children took away crucial life-saving lessons from the broadcasts. Children practiced fundamental habits like standing safely behind the yellow lines and listening carefully to adults at stations.
"We watched the story about staying safe at train stations. We will be standing behind the yellow line if we are at the station. We won’t be running and we will be listening to adult instructions." — Hazel Class (Yr 1)

"I will remember to 'Stop, Look, Listen and Live' when I’m near a railway." — Sycamore Class (Yr 2)

"I learned how extremely dangerous it is to play near railway tracks and overhead power cables, especially knowing that a single train weighs the same as 80 elephants." — Oak Class (Yr3)

"I always knew the railway was risky, but I had no idea how many hidden hazards exist beyond just oncoming trains. The video has made it clear." — Palm Class (Yr 4)
We are extremely proud of our children's thoughtful engagement with these safety materials and look forward to continuing our commitment to keeping our school community safe on and around the railways!
