Handwriting
At Foxfield Primary School, we recognise that fluent and legible handwriting is a fundamental tool for learning, enabling children to communicate their thoughts and ideas with confidence, pride, and automaticity. Handwriting remains a priority across our school, starting in early years and continuing all the way through Key Stage 2. In the early years, we focus on developing core mechanics such as fine motor skills, proper posture, tripod grip, and explicit letter formation phrases to build a seamless bridge from phonetic understanding to writing fluency. To maintain consistency across year groups, we have embedded a structured, whole-school handwriting scheme that emphasises clear skill progression from early pre-cursive movements to confident, joined writing. Furthermore, targeted 'keep-up' interventions and tailored support are embedded throughout the school to ensure that children who need additional practice receive the guidance and encouragement required to continuously build their motor skills and handwriting confidence.
